A landing report can use an aggregate category that does not establish which individual entries were included. NOAA publishes commercial landings and electronic reporting context. A wholly invented exercise can test reporting and revision logic for this industry without suggesting how or where to take any species. NOAA commercial landings · Census Agriculture industries

Create two dummy categories, a dated report and a correction applying to one category only. Ask which record supports the revised figure and what cannot be inferred about the underlying entries. Include a total with an unspecified basis so the model must ask for clarification.

Do not use real species locations, commercial identities, vessel information, protected records, or material about extraction methods. Verify rights and reporting scope if any actual data is considered.

Original Fiund exercise

A category correction does not identify every underlying landing entry

A wholly invented reporting fixture uses generic categories and arbitrary mass units. It includes no species, vessel, location, extraction method or real landing record.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
ML1Accepted report R1Period P: category A=40 practice units, category B=60, stated total 100.
ML2Correction R1AExplicitly replaces category A with 45 for the same period and report. B unchanged; revised same-basis total 105.
ML3Supporting noteNo entry-level mapping supplied for A. A separate figure 110 is labeled total without period, unit or category basis.

Question for the model

Which category and report total are supported after correction, and what cannot be inferred about individual entries or the 110 figure?

Show the reference answer and checks

ML2 replaces ML1's A value with 45 while B remains 60, supporting a revised same-basis total of 105 practice units. It does not add another category-A record to the total. ML3 lacks the underlying entry map, so the correction cannot identify which individual landing entries changed. Its unlabeled 110 also cannot be reconciled without period, unit and scope clarification. Preserve aggregate evidence without inventing constituent activity.

  • Adding original and corrected category values together.
  • Inferring individual landing changes or comparing totals that lack a common basis.

Fields to preserve

Report period and category
Defines the aggregate.
Correction target and unit
Supports replacement and arithmetic.
Entry-map availability and total basis
Preserves the unresolved level of detail.

Test another case

Supply a 110 total for a different period. Require it to remain separate rather than treat it as a discrepancy in P.

Use original fictional records. Exclude commercial identities, locations and protected material; authorized staff retain reporting decisions.
