Oilseed processing data for AI co-product lineage
Oilseed processing produces related outputs whose records can easily become disconnected.
NAICS 311224 · Soybean and Other Oilseed Processing
Oilseed processing produces related outputs whose records can easily become disconnected. USDA's product specifications include vegetable oil procurement requirements. A processor considering data licensing can use that context to propose a lineage exercise rather than a claim that every process log already has a buyer. USDA product specifications
Construct an original receiving manifest, an invented processing run and separate oil and meal dispatch records. Split the run across a shift boundary. Ask which outgoing lots descend from the same input and which dispatch has only a tank reference. Add one carried-over tank quantity with no documented incoming lot. The answer key must preserve the unresolved contribution instead of assigning the whole dispatch to the newest receipt.
Record the source lot, run interval, output identifier and evidence for each link. Reserve a different co-product naming scheme for evaluation. This tests whether the model follows the relationship when familiar labels disappear. Score unsupported lineage and omitted carryover as distinct failures, with a reviewer explanation for each.
Use fabricated manifests and neutral process names in the first package. Actual extraction settings, supplier contracts and shipment records can reveal commercial information. Confirm who controls each source and what derivative annotations may be shared. A clear proposal states which lineage decisions are supported, how gaps are labeled and what additional capture would be required under a buyer's approved specification.

Co-product records can share an input while a tank dispatch has unresolved carryover
An original fictional co-product diagram uses abstract outputs and invented quantities. It contains no actual extraction setting, formula, supplier, shipment or product recommendation.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| OMO1 | Run record | Input I1 enters run R across shift boundary. Original map explicitly links meal output M1 and oil-style output O1 to R/I1. |
| OMO2 | Dispatch links | Dispatch D-M explicitly receives M1. D-O cites tank T, which has a confirmed O1 addition and a prior carryover quantity without source lot. |
| OMO3 | Tank scope | No source-resolved allocation of D-O's draw or full prior genealogy. A recent I1 receipt does not supersede the carryover history. |
Question for the model
Which output lots trace to I1, and can the whole D-O dispatch be attributed to that input?
Show the reference answer and checks
OMO1 links both M1 and O1 to I1 through R, independent of the shift boundary. OMO2 gives D-M a direct M1 link. D-O has a tank reference and O1 is a known tank input, but OMO3 leaves the carryover source and exact draw composition unresolved. Do not assign the entire dispatch to I1 or erase the unknown contribution because I1 was the latest receipt. Preserve the graph and its limits separately.
- Losing one co-product branch when a run spans shifts.
- Attributing a whole tank dispatch to the newest known input while omitting unresolved carryover.
Fields to preserve
- Run, input and co-product IDs
- Defines ancestry.
- Dispatch-to-output or tank reference
- Supports downstream links.
- Carryover and allocation evidence
- Limits composition attribution.
Test another case
Rename output categories and give a separate direct O1 dispatch. Require a complete direct trace for that event while the mixed tank case stays unresolved.
Use original fictional manifests. Exclude extraction settings, supplier terms and real shipments; qualified staff retain actual decisions.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
