INDUSTRY FIELD GUIDE
Freight brokerage exception records for training workflow assistants
A useful freight example shows how a broker handles an exception when updates arrive out of order.

A useful freight example shows how a broker handles an exception when updates arrive out of order. micro1 says its enterprise program uses de-identified operational data to build realistic agent environments. FMCSA defines broker and carrier roles, which can help distinguish whose messages and records appear in a fabricated case. Scale explicitly lists freight brokerage and third-party logistics for its operational-data partnerships. Include a conflict the assistant must resolve
Create a fictional load with an original pickup window, a carrier delay, an outdated automated status and a shipper request. Identify which message was authoritative at the moment a decision was made. Label the next action, who must be notified and where the record was confirmed. Keep the final outcome separate from the evidence available at the time to avoid leakage.
A holdout can include a different lane or exception type. Use a rubric that rewards surfacing missing information and escalating a conflict when the assistant cannot resolve it.
Strip commercial and location details from first samples
Remove client and carrier identities, active locations, rates, driver information and account access. Review carrier agreements, customer confidentiality, routing details and any required records procedures before considering actual data. A buyer does not need a connection to a transportation management system to assess a fabricated example.

Original Fiund exercise
Out-of-order status messages require source authority and an as-of cutoff
A fictional load uses abstract windows, roles and timestamps. It includes no lane, location, driver, rate, client identity or transportation-system access.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| FB1 | Original booking | Load L, pickup window W1. Shipper-authorized instruction says any pickup-window change needs shipper confirmation. |
| FB2 | Messages available by 10:10 | Carrier reports delay at 10:02, received 10:03. Automated status generated 09:55 says on time, received 10:05. Shipper requests clarification at 10:08; no new window approved. |
| FB3 | Packet cutoff | This packet contains only records available by 10:10. Any later outcome belongs in a separate reviewer archive, not the model input; no later resolution is provided here. |
Question for the model
As of 10:10, what evidence conflict should be surfaced and who must confirm a changed pickup window?
Show the reference answer and checks
FB2's carrier delay is newer event evidence than the stale 09:55 automated status even though the latter arrived later. Surface that conflict and the shipper's clarification request. FB1 requires shipper confirmation before changing W1, and no such approval is available by 10:10. FB3 excludes later outcomes from this packet. Route the exception for shipper review without inventing a resolution or claiming later information was known at the cutoff.
- Choosing the latest-arriving message despite its older source timestamp.
- Using a later outcome as if known at the decision cutoff or changing a window without its required authority.
Fields to preserve
- Load and current authorized window
- Defines the booking.
- Generated versus received time and source role
- Supports conflict review.
- Decision cutoff and later-history partition
- Prevents outcome leakage.
Test another case
Use a different exception where the carrier corrects an earlier erroneous delay. Require evidence authority and timestamps rather than a fixed rule that delay always wins.
Use original fictional messages and separate input/answer files. Exclude commercial records, routes and account access; buyer demand and export rights require confirmation.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
