A surface feature can be expected at an intermediate forging stage and actionable after trimming. ARM has selected robotic inspection projects addressing casting and forging. A forging company can propose a test that adds stage information to imagery so a model cannot simply learn that any visible line is a reject. ARM casting and forging project selections

Select cold training pieces whose stages and dispositions are known. Photograph a normal pretrim flash line and an approved retained example with a different indication at final inspection. Label stage, orientation, affected surface, and how a reviewer verified the finding. For a harder case, omit the stage from one packet and require the model to request the traveler. Test ferrous and nonferrous examples separately when process or finish changes the appearance.

Release only permitted images of owned reference pieces. Customer dies, temperatures, sequence settings, and controlled part designs are outside an initial sample. Use a qualified inspector’s existing decisions and keep the proposed data away from active presses.

Describe the inspection stages

Original Fiund exercise

A stage-specific border changes the label

Inert paper mockups have a fictional border tab and original inspection images.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Stage rubricBorder tab expected on intermediate I; final F reference omits it.
2Image APiece P4 at I with visible border tab.
3Image BSame piece at F with tab still visible in the same region.

Question for the model

How should the tab annotation change between images?

Show the reference answer and checks

At I the tab agrees with the intermediate reference, using records 1 and 2. At F the same visible feature differs from the final reference in records 1 and 3. Store the appearance and stage separately; do not assign the same discrepancy label to both.

  • Flagging intermediate geometry using the final template
  • Assuming every image of one piece has the same stage label

Fields to preserve

inspection_stage
Selects applicable reference
border_region
Locates the visible feature
reference_expectation
Distinguishes expected shape from discrepancy

Test another case

Hide the stage code and use an ambiguous border shape; retain the feature but withhold conformity labeling.

No actual forging recipes, tooling, thresholds or release decisions.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
