Flexible packaging film and pouch seal data for AI
Seal appearance and seal test outcome are different measurements.

Seal appearance and seal test outcome are different measurements. A film converter can document which roll ran through a trial. A pouch maker can add the seam image and the result of a qualified test. NIST’s controlled manufacturing monitoring research includes cameras and sensors. It supports combining image observations and measurements for this kind of evaluation. It does not establish an open buying program for pouch samples. NIST manufacturing monitoring
Start with unprinted material and an invented roll ID. Show a sound seam, a seam with a known test failure, and a cosmetic wrinkle that looks like a channel. Pair the same specimen ID across the film traveler, controlled-light image, and test disposition. A good evaluator must tell when the test applies to another specimen or the photo cannot support a decision. For converters that do not run a pouch line, provide the roll-level material identity and a compatible test coupon instead.
Keep multilayer formulas, customer art, process recipes, and production settings in-house. Photograph finished samples and have the quality team authorize any test data shared.

Original Fiund exercise
A printed stripe looks like a seal channel
The contributor uses owned paper film mockups with original graphic elements and calibrated photo labels; nothing is tested for barrier performance.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Film ticket | Sample F8 uses reference film card L4; seal band target drawn at x=4–8 mm. |
| 2 | Artwork proof | The straight gray stripe at x=5 mm is intentional. |
| 3 | Detail pair | A separate irregular gap crosses the band at x=7 mm in both views. |
Question for the model
Which feature belongs in the suspected-channel annotation?
Show the reference answer and checks
Record the irregular gap at x=7 mm as a visible candidate because record 3 places it within the band in record 1. The x=5 mm stripe is explained by artwork in record 2. A candidate label is not proof of a leaking seal.
- Flagging printed design as a channel
- Treating visible appearance as leak verification
Fields to preserve
- film_card_id
- Links the sample to its mock material ticket
- feature_coordinate
- Locates the candidate relative to the band
- channel_evidence_state
- Distinguishes an observation from a confirmed test
Test another case
Add glare coincident with the band that disappears in the second view; require a lighting-artifact label.
No real sealing settings, food-contact claims, supplier film specifications or containment decisions.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
