INDUSTRY FIELD GUIDE
Fabric shop cut length, bolt and lot data for AI
A fabric counter can measure a cut length while a bolt card supplies width, fiber and lot.

A fabric counter can measure a cut length while a bolt card supplies width, fiber and lot. FTC provides textile labeling resources. A retailer can stage a verification task with original tags and material it is authorized to film. FTC textile and wool labeling guidance
Lay two short offcuts with dummy lot cards on a table. Film a staff member aligning one with a ruler and reading the tag. Add a measurement photo from the wrong bolt. Ask which length and width the sources support and what needs another view.
Use owned fabric and original labels. Keep customer projects, licensed prints and pricing records out. Confirm staff, material and media rights.
Describe a staged fabric measurement sample
Original Fiund exercise
The measured offcut length and the bolt card's width come from different views
Two owned practice offcuts and original tags use artificial dimensions and dye-lot codes. No customer project, price, actual order or licensed print is represented.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| FRL1 | Bolt A card | Fabric F, dye lot L1, width 50 practice cm. Offcut C1 explicitly linked to bolt A. |
| FRL2 | C1 ruler view | Visible C1 tag and ruler marks show a 30 cm length in the staged annotation. Ruler covers length axis only; width not measured in that image. |
| FRL3 | Loose ruler photo | Shows 40 cm but tag says bolt B/lot L2. No C1 association or substitute rule supplied. |
Question for the model
Which C1 length and source width are supported, and can the loose ruler view replace either?
Show the reference answer and checks
FRL2 supports C1's observed 30 cm length from its matched tag and ruler. FRL1 supplies 50 cm as the parent bolt's documented width, not a width independently measured in C1's length view. FRL3 belongs to a different bolt and lot and cannot replace either. Report each dimension's source and measurement scope rather than transfer an image by fabric resemblance or confuse the bolt specification with a separate offcut observation.
- Using a ruler image from the wrong bolt or dye lot.
- Claiming an offcut width was measured when the photograph covers only length.
Fields to preserve
- Bolt, offcut and dye-lot ID
- Defines lineage.
- Length axis and scale
- Supports observed measurement.
- Width specification versus image evidence
- Keeps dimensions sourced separately.
Test another case
Add a matched C1 width view showing 45 cm. Require observed offcut width and 50 cm bolt specification to remain separate rather than overwrite either.
Use owned materials, original labels and consented performers. Exclude customer projects, licensed patterns and pricing records.
