Executive office directive and amendment records for AI

An executive office can test whether software retrieves the rule that applied on a given date.

NAICS 921110 · Executive Offices

An executive office can test whether software retrieves the rule that applied on a given date. The National Archives publishes executive order disposition tables, which document relationships among published orders. Build a small evaluation around one explicitly scoped change. National Archives executive order disposition tables

Write a fictional directive about when an administrative form changes. Give a later amendment a narrower scope and a different effective date. Ask which provision applies to each fictional office on the target day. The reviewer should score order identity, cited provision and applicability separately.

Use original text or released material with documented reuse terms. Exclude internal deliberations, restricted instructions and personnel records. Give any real records proposal to the agency official who can confirm release authority.

Describe an original directive evaluation

Original Fiund exercise

A narrow directive amendment leaves the other office's rule intact

An imaginary executive office issues original administrative form instructions. The exercise applies supplied scope and dates without interpreting an actual order or restricted directive.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
EO1Practice directive D1All fictional offices use form A from day 1.
EO2Authorized amendment D1-AOffice X uses form B from day 10; all other offices remain under D1. Published day 7.
EO3New draftProposes form C for every office, saved day 12. No approval or effective date recorded.

Question for the model

Which form is supported for offices X and Y on days 8 and 11, and what effect does the day-12 draft establish?

Show the reference answer and checks

EO1 supports A for both X and Y on day 8 because EO2's effective date has not arrived. On day 11, EO2 supports B for X only, while Y retains A under D1. EO3 is an unapproved proposal and establishes no effective change. Preserve publication, effectivity and office scope instead of applying the narrow amendment globally or selecting the newest saved draft.

  • Applying an amendment when published rather than at its stated effective date.
  • Extending an X-only change to Y or treating an unapproved draft as authority.

Fields to preserve

Directive and provision target
Defines the baseline instruction.
Office scope and effective date
Limits the amendment's applicability.
Draft and approval state
Separates proposed text from an authorized rule.

Test another case

Amend Y separately from day 15 and ask for a day-13 answer. Require the model to retain the earlier Y rule until the new date.

Use original fictional text. Exclude deliberations, personnel files, restricted instructions and internal agency records.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
