Dimension stone block and face records for AI

A stone block can show different surface features on different faces.

NAICS 212311 · Dimension Stone Mining and Quarrying

A stone block can show different surface features on different faces. USGS publishes industry context for dimension stone. A quarry can test whether a model associates a practice photo with the correct block and view, rather than assuming a feature continues through the material. USGS dimension stone overview

Use an approved sample or molded prop and label two faces. Include a close-up from a neighboring prop that looks similar. Ask which source supports each visible observation, and which view is insufficient. Include independent dimensions as artificial values so visual matching and measurement remain separate.

Do not handle production blocks or record work. Exclude quarry coordinates, customer specifications, production images, private material data and people. Confirm rights for the props and images.

Describe a tabletop stone observation sample

Original Fiund exercise

A face-specific observation cannot establish an unseen interior

Use independently photographed molded props on a table. A painted streak is a visual feature, not a real stone defect or a structural assessment.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
DF1Prop image A-frontVisible label A; front face has a dark painted streak. Right face is outside the frame.
DF2Prop image A-rightVisible label A; right face is partly covered by a paper card.
DF3Prop image B-right and dimension cardVisible label B; right face has a similar streak. A separate card states prop A width 10 practice units.

Question for the model

Which observations can be attributed to A, and do B's close-up or A's dimension card show that A's streak continues through the block?

Show the reference answer and checks

DF1 supports a visible painted streak on A's front face. DF2 identifies A's right view but leaves the covered area unobserved. DF3's similar streak belongs to B, and its separate dimension card states width rather than internal continuity. No supplied image shows that A's streak crosses to the right face or through the interior. Preserve that uncertainty.

  • Assigning B's close-up to A because the paint looks similar.
  • Converting a supplied width into a visual observation about the prop's interior.

Fields to preserve

Prop and face identifiers
Connects a view to a specific object surface.
Visible region and occlusion
Shows which part of a face was actually observed.
Image provenance
Separates neighboring props with similar appearance.
Measurement source
Keeps recorded dimensions separate from image-derived claims.

Test another case

Add an unobstructed right-face photograph with A's label absent but a unique tabletop marker visible. Ask whether that marker supplies the required identity link under the stated evaluation rule.

Use safe lightweight props with image rights cleared. Do not handle production blocks or record quarry work, customer specifications or private material images.
