Clay sample preparation records for AI evaluation
Two results may describe the same source material at different preparation stages.

Two results may describe the same source material at different preparation stages. USGS publishes clay commodity references and geochemical data-quality guidance. A synthetic exercise can test whether a model notices that a result applies to the prepared portion, with no preparation instructions included. Create dummy records for an original lot and two prepared specimens. Give one result an explicit preparation status and omit it from the other. Ask which results can be compared, what information is missing, and which label traces to the original lot. Include a test for a different specimen with a similar date.
Do not include recipes, source and grade information, equipment details, customer requirements, or real testing records. Use invented values and independently written labels.
Describe a material lineage exercise
Original Fiund exercise
Trace a prepared portion back to the original clay lot
A paper-only clay inventory separates the parent lot from two prepared specimens. Preparation names are abstract labels; the packet contains no processing recipe or operational instruction.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| CL1 | Invented portion ledger | Parent LOT-F has prepared specimen F-A at stage P and specimen F-B with stage unrecorded. |
| CL2 | Invented report | Measurement M=18 arbitrary units applies to F-A at stage P. |
| CL3 | Separate report | Measurement M=21 arbitrary units applies to G-A, also dated June 4; no link from G-A to LOT-F is recorded. |
Question for the model
Which result can be associated with LOT-F, and can either report supply the missing preparation stage or value for F-B?
Show the reference answer and checks
CL1 and CL2 establish the path LOT-F → F-A → stage P → M=18. That result describes the prepared F-A portion rather than every portion of LOT-F. CL3 describes G-A; its matching date does not create a parent relationship. Neither report supplies F-B's preparation stage or its measurement. Both remain unresolved.
- Assigning F-A's result to F-B because the portions share a parent lot.
- Attaching G-A to LOT-F using the report date alone.
Fields to preserve
- Parent-to-portion relation
- Allows a reviewer to follow the specific material lineage.
- Preparation-stage status
- Shows whether a stage is stated, missing or merely assumed.
- Reported specimen identifier
- Makes a date-only match insufficient.
- Measurement scope
- Keeps a portion result from being described as a whole-lot property.
Test another case
Supply a signed correction linking F-B to stage Q but leave its measurement absent. The correct answer should resolve the stage alone, without borrowing stage P's result.
Create labels and quantities independently. Exclude real grades, recipes, laboratory reports, equipment details and customer material requirements.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
