Can a business license documents and support tickets for AI?
Prepare a business-data inventory, review permission boundaries and separate usable documents from confidential or restricted material.

| Record group | What the review should resolve |
|---|---|
| Internal documents | Authorship, ownership, confidential content and permitted use |
| Support threads | Customer terms, personal information and thread relationships |
| Attachments | Third-party sources and independent restrictions |
| Processed exports | Redaction method, source IDs and remaining risks |
A business can explore licensing a document or support-ticket collection only after establishing what it is entitled to license and what may be disclosed. Possessing a help-desk export, owning the software account or employing the people who wrote messages does not by itself settle those questions.
Start with an inventory and a review process, not a raw database upload. This guide explains how to prepare an assessment. It does not establish permission for your particular records, promise a sale or replace a review of the applicable contracts and law.
Identify the actual product

Separate internal manuals, authored documents, customer conversations, third-party attachments and structured ticket fields. These categories can have different authors, contractual restrictions and privacy implications. A single export may contain all of them.
Describe the intended model task: document understanding, retrieval evaluation, issue classification or workflow reasoning, for example. A task description helps identify which fields are necessary and which should be excluded rather than exposing the entire system.
Review authority and confidentiality before sharing
Have the appropriate business owner and reviewer examine ownership, customer and vendor contracts, employee or contractor arrangements, confidentiality obligations and the proposed recipient and use. Record restrictions by source or record group. Do not infer training permission from a general service relationship.
Flag material subject to professional secrecy, legal privilege, trade secrets or heightened personal-data requirements for specialist review. Exclude unresolved categories from the proposed package until that review is complete. Publicly accessible documents also need a provenance and use review.
Do not equate removing names with anonymisation
Free-text tickets can contain contact details, account numbers, pasted credentials, attachments and distinctive events. Removing a name column leaves those possibilities in the text and linked fields. Use an agreed review of both structured and unstructured content.
The UK ICO distinguishes anonymisation from pseudonymisation: replacing identifiers does not automatically put data outside personal-data rules. That guidance is jurisdiction-specific and currently marked under review. Establish the applicable requirements for your collection instead of describing a redacted export as automatically safe to license.

Build a representative, controlled sample
Begin with a schema, category counts and a description without actual customer text. An illustrative schema could contain record_id, thread_id, source_type, language, created_period, issue_category, resolution_status and restriction_status. These are planning fields, not evidence that a dataset is available.
After an agreed review and sharing process, prepare a sample that includes ordinary records and known limitations. Document redaction, excluded fields, attachments, deduplication and whether thread relationships survive processing. Check that the sample is the same type of material proposed for delivery.
Make the licence scope match the reviewed package
Identify the record subset, permitted uses, delivery version, retention requirements and any ongoing refresh. Keep approval of this business-data review separate from Fiund’s contributor licensing model: contributors sign the applicable standing agreement; Fiund does not send each buyer deal back for contributor approval.
Fiund’s standard buyer licences are non-exclusive and prohibit synthetic voice or likeness replication. An assessment does not certify rights clearance or guarantee a purchase. Submit a description first; do not paste confidential records, personal information or credentials into the intake form.
Before requesting an assessment or quote
- List source categories and responsible reviewers.
- Record restrictions and unresolved permissions.
- Describe the schema without customer content.
- Agree a controlled sample process before sharing records.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell a full help-desk export as it is?
Do not assume so. First review the source categories, agreements, personal information, attachments and intended use. A full export is not the starting assessment package.
Does replacing customer names make the records anonymous?
Not necessarily. Other fields, free text and links between records can still identify people. Review the full package and applicable requirements.
Should I upload examples in the first Fiund form?
Start with a non-sensitive description. Sample sharing follows a review and an agreed process.
