Court docket entry, document and correction records for AI
A docket entry identifies a filing, while an attachment supplies the text.

A docket entry identifies a filing, while an attachment supplies the text. A later entry can correct part of the record. U.S. Courts provides guidance on access to court records and privacy in electronic case files. An original exercise can test citation and version selection without using actual cases. Create three dummy docket entries and two mock documents. Change a filing date in a correction, then add an entry with no attachment. Ask which records support the corrected date and what remains unknown about the absent attachment.
Use invented parties and records. Keep sealed material, names, addresses and victim information out. Check rights and rules before any reuse of real court material.

A corrected filing date does not reveal an absent attachment's contents
Three dummy docket entries and original mock documents have no real parties or case history. The task tests citation and correction provenance without a legal conclusion.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| CD1 | Practice entry E1 and document D1 | E1 says filed day 4; D1 contains an original administrative cover note. |
| CD2 | Authorized correction entry E2 | Corrects E1 filing date to day 3. D1 text unchanged; E2 itself posted day 6. |
| CD3 | Practice entry E3 | Lists attachment D2, but the attachment is unavailable. Entry title alone says supplemental note. |
Question for the model
Which filing date is current for E1, what date describes the correction's posting, and what can be stated about D2's text?
Show the reference answer and checks
CD2 makes day 3 E1's corrected filing date, while day 6 is the correction entry's own posting date. Those dates describe different events. CD1's D1 text remains unchanged. CD3 establishes that D2 is listed but unavailable; its title cannot establish the missing document's wording or content. Cite the correction and preserve the attachment gap instead of fabricating a summary.
- Replacing the corrected filing date with the later correction-posting date.
- Summarizing an absent attachment from its docket title as though its text were available.
Fields to preserve
- Entry-to-document relationship
- Distinguishes the docket metadata from attached text.
- Filing and posting dates
- Preserves different event meanings.
- Correction target and unavailable attachment
- Makes both supersession and missing evidence explicit.
Test another case
Add D2 later with a creation date preceding E3. Require the model to distinguish document creation, filing and availability rather than collapse them into one date.
Use invented parties and records only. Exclude actual cases, sealed material, names, addresses and victim information.
