What it is worth

Royalties or a buyout: which actually pays more?

Payment timing and license duration are separate choices. A one-time payment does not necessarily transfer copyright, and recurring payments do not guarantee a predictable income.

The short version

  1. LANDR describes both limited-period and perpetual partner datasets.
  2. Its limited-period datasets refresh at least annually; perpetual datasets are not refreshed.
  3. Check ownership, permitted uses, term, payment and exit provisions separately.

Read the duration alongside the payment

LANDR describes recurring payments for limited-period arrangements and a single payment for perpetual ones. These are that program’s terms, not a rule for every provider.

Keep ownership distinct

A license can permit long-term use while ownership stays with the creator. Fiund’s contributor agreement governs its own licensing authority, withdrawals and compensation.

Limits to the comparison

There is no universal royalty-versus-buyout multiplier. Existing licenses and already-trained models may not be reversed by a later opt-out. Review the actual scope before assigning a value to an exit provision.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a Fiund price or a guaranteed payout?

No. Published examples describe the named provider or agreement. Fiund scopes each collection and buyer license separately; an example does not establish demand or a payout for your archive.

What should I check before using this example?
