How much does Scale AI pay? Outlier work and data licensing explained

Separate expert contributor pay, project-specific terms and existing dataset licensing. No universal Scale footage-purchase rate is verified in the sources reviewed.

There is no single Scale AI pay rate for every kind of work. Scale identifies Outlier as part of its family of products and services, while individual programs have their own projects, eligibility and terms. Payment for expert work is different from payment to license an existing dataset.

As checked October 27, 2026, the official Scale fellowship listing reviewed states that project pay varies by factors including project scope, skills and location, with pay information supplied when matched. It does not publish a universal rate to buy egocentric recordings.

Start with the actual role or program

Identify whether the offer concerns expert evaluation, writing, coding, another human-data task or existing-data licensing. Even within one platform, eligibility, project availability and payment conditions can differ.

Scale’s Outlier announcement describes expert contributions to creating and curating model data. Its Machine Learning Fellow listing is a separate, specialized program. Neither should be treated as a standard rate card for all collectors or suppliers.

Read more than the headline amount

For a current offer, record the currency, country, role, billing unit, paid task types and any lower-paid onboarding or other conditions actually stated. Check whether the rate is fixed, a range or a maximum, and which work qualifies.

A previously advertised role or cached search snippet may no longer represent an available opportunity. This guide avoids presenting an old posting’s headline range as a currently open, universal Scale rate. Confirm the actual offer on the official platform.

Do not turn labor pay into dataset pricing

An hourly contractor payment compensates work under that project. A dataset licence concerns existing assets and specified permitted uses. The buyer may separately require source review, consent evidence, annotations and a tested delivery.

No public price to purchase existing egocentric footage from independent suppliers was verified in the reviewed sources. That absence is not proof that no transaction occurs; it means a specific purchase price cannot responsibly be stated here.

Estimate the return from your own terms

Use actual paid units and time spent, not the maximum advertised rate multiplied by every available hour. Record onboarding, unpaid waiting, administration, review and expenses separately when evaluating effective earnings.

Keep your project terms and payment records. If an offer is unclear, ask the official provider to explain the rate and eligibility before undertaking work. Fiund does not operate Outlier or determine its rates.

Choose the appropriate next step

Use official Scale or Outlier links for their contributor programs. Fiund’s collection assessment is a separate way to describe a team’s equipment, region and access; it is not an application to Scale and does not guarantee paid work.

If you already own useful recordings or another dataset, submit a supplier description instead. Fiund reviews the actual material, source quality, permissions and buyer fit before any licensing opportunity.

Before the next step

  • Identify the specific program and work type.
  • Verify current official terms instead of cached rates.
  • Separate hours of work from licensed recording hours.
  • Do not assume a guaranteed supply of tasks.
