What repair and service businesses can record for AI
A repair shop can contribute two very different kinds of evidence.
A repair shop can contribute two very different kinds of evidence. A clip can show a technician selecting a part and checking fit. A record set can show why the technician chose that part and who approved the repair. Pick one workflow and define what a reviewer can verify before adding volume.
What public sources tell us about demand
| Evidence | Data format | What to ask before recording |
|---|---|---|
| Troveo markets egocentric video for physical AI, including footage of hand and tool interactions. | First-person video with visible objects, consistent task boundaries and rights information. | Is this task in a current brief? What views, sensor streams and labels are mandatory? |
| Scale AI lists manufacturing and robotics and selected field services in its Data Partnerships program. | Real operating records, prepared and approved under a scoped partnership. | Does this operator and data source qualify? Which authorized records and approvals are needed? |
| Physical Intelligence published robot policy work on laundry folding and other manipulation tasks. | A research example of using task demonstrations and evaluating execution. | Which training setup, robot and measurements transfer to your use case? Research results alone give no purchasing terms. |

Make a clip a reviewer can score
Use a shop-owned, unpowered fixture and two inert parts with different visible markings. Set the task to select the matching part, align it with the fixture and show the final seated position. Film the whole motion and record the start state, attempt, end state, and which view supports each label. Keep a second attempt with an obscured final view as a visibility test. Label what the reviewer can see and request a recapture for the hidden endpoint.
Keep evidence that the operator and location owner approved the defined AI use. Exclude customer items, proprietary diagrams, people or documents in reflections and incidental audio. Mark the recording rights and scope per take. If a buyer needs telemetry or true robot action data, confirm those requirements before expanding capture.
For records work, keep test conditions, measurements and approval sources together. Use a practice dataset to validate the scoring rubric, then confirm what the buyer would consider and who can authorize any real operating data.

An original fixture evidence comparison
Use an owned, unpowered practice fixture with inert parts marked A and B. The instruction calls for A. The first recording shows A’s identifier and a visible final position. The second recording shows a matching initial selection but hides the endpoint. A test sheet for the first take should not be used to fill the missing final evidence in the second.
The reference key can confirm the first take’s observed state and request a matching final view for the second. It should avoid turning a visual classification into a serviceability determination. Preserve the take ID, part ID, instruction and supporting view. This exercise supplies no repair instruction or permission to use a customer item as training data.
