An image count alone is not a valuation. A buyer needs an appropriate subject distribution, usable source files, a defined licence and evidence about how the collection was assembled. There is no verified universal dollar rate per image in this guide.

Quote a defined subset and its deliverables. Ten thousand duplicate exports or video frames from a few scenes are not equivalent to ten thousand independently sourced scenes.

Define a billable image

A creator working with recorded footage in an editing studio.

Agree whether an accepted asset is an original photograph, a video frame, a crop, a multi-view group or an annotated image. Preserve relationships between derivatives and source IDs rather than presenting each transformation as a new independent observation.

Break down the inventory by subject, source, capture conditions and label availability. A buyer may need specific rare categories rather than the largest possible file count. Do not promise a rarity premium without a real offer.

Separate files, labels and collection work

Ask whether the quote includes originals, metadata, classifications, bounding boxes, polygons or masks. Different annotation types require different effort and should have a written definition and review process. A class label is not a segmentation mask.

An existing archive licence and a commissioned photo collection have different costs. For collection, budget subject access, staff time, permissions, equipment, review and recapture separately. Do not assume those costs will be recovered through a later sale.

Compare prices without a false benchmark

Hypothetical only: a $500 project price for 2,000 accepted images implies $0.25 per accepted image before costs. If only 1,000 satisfy the brief and the price is still $500, the unit cost is $0.50. Contract terms determine whether the total or accepted count changes.

Record minimum order, included labels, rejected-image treatment, delivery work and payment terms alongside the headline amount. These details make two quotes comparable; a generic internet price range does not.

Prepare an assessment package

Use a manifest with asset ID, source filename, dimensions, source group, subject category, annotation status and known permissions or restrictions. Report synthetic, transformed or model-labeled content separately.

Fiund’s standard buyer licences are non-exclusive. Assessment does not establish availability, rights clearance or a sale. Submit a description first and agree a sample-sharing process before transmitting private material.

Frequently asked questions

Do crops count as extra original images?

They are derivatives. Identify their source and agree how they count for the proposed project.

Will labels always increase the sale price?

No. Labels must fit the task and pass the agreed review. Unneeded or unreliable annotations may not add value.
