Timber tract remeasurement data for AI inventory review
A tree appears to shrink between visits if the second measurement belongs to another stem.
NAICS 113110 · Timber Tract Operations
A tree appears to shrink between visits if the second measurement belongs to another stem. Forest Service field guides and timber cruising materials provide concrete examples of structured forest measurements. A timber tract operator could use repeat observations with verified IDs to test whether a model distinguishes real changes from mismatches. Forest Service nationwide inventory field guide · Forest Service timber cruising handbook
Create an invented plot sketch and three stem records. Keep two stems close together, with similar attributes and different IDs. Provide a verified return visit for one and an ambiguous measurement for the other. Ask the assistant which measurement comparison is supported and what observation would resolve the ambiguity. Preserve unit and method. A separate approved plot can test transfer without sharing the coordinates.
Use fictional maps or location-stripped images. Remove landowner identities, appraisal data, road access details, timber sale records, and precise locations of sensitive resources.
Describe a plot remeasurement sample
Original Fiund exercise
A nearby stem's measurement cannot establish shrinkage in another tree
An abstract forest plot has original stem labels and arbitrary diameter units. No real coordinates, valuation, road access or sensitive resource location appears.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| TM1 | Visit 1 | Plot P: stem A diameter 20 U, stem B nearby diameter 18 U. Distinct marked IDs; same practice measurement method. |
| TM2 | Verified return | Visit 2 explicitly identifies stem A and uses same method/unit: 21 U. Reviewer confirms the match. |
| TM3 | Ambiguous return | Visit 2 reading 17 U, label 'near A/B', stem ID missing. No position or image evidence sufficient to resolve identity. |
Question for the model
Which remeasurement difference is supported, and does the ambiguous 17-U value prove that A or B shrank?
Show the reference answer and checks
TM1 and TM2 support A's change from 20 to 21 practice units under the same stated method. TM3 lacks a verified stem identity and cannot establish a change for either A or B. Its proximity label is not an adequate join, even if one numerical comparison looks plausible. Request a stem-specific observation or reviewed identity link before interpreting the ambiguous value as growth, shrinkage or measurement error.
- Matching remeasurements by proximity while ignoring distinct stem IDs.
- Interpreting an unlinked lower value as a biological change rather than an unresolved identity.
Fields to preserve
- Plot and stem ID
- Defines the repeated object.
- Visit, method and unit
- Supports a comparable measurement.
- Identity verification and ambiguity
- Limits change interpretation.
Test another case
Add a reviewed link assigning the 17-U reading to a third stem C. Require both A's supported increase and B's missing return measurement to remain intact.
Use fictional maps or location-stripped authorized imagery. Exclude owners, appraisals, sale records and precise sensitive locations.
