Two refills can share a name while their width, spacing or binding format differs. GS1 describes trade item identity. A retailer can test whether software preserves documented attributes and recognizes when a photo is insufficient for a compatibility match. GS1 US product identifiers

Make two original binder inserts with different hole spacing. Photograph their labels and give one a matching compatibility card. Leave the other card’s scale undefined. Ask which refill is supported and where a new measurement is needed. Have a reviewer check units and variant.

Use original paper props and labels. Leave office customer records, supplier files and proprietary templates out.

Original Fiund exercise

Matching refill names do not establish hole spacing or binder compatibility

Two original paper inserts and abstract binder cards use practice millimeters. There is no proprietary template, actual supplier file, customer or purchase recommendation.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
SR1Binder B cardOriginal fixture expects format F and hole spacing 20 practice mm. Compatibility card explicitly names refill A/B/F.
SR2Refill A viewReadable A/F label and ruler view show 20 mm between marked centers. Reviewer confirms scale and matching insert.
SR3Refill C viewSame display name, format G. Hole centers appear separated by 20 pixels in an unscaled crop. No verified mm conversion or B compatibility card.

Question for the model

Which refill has the specified documentation and measured spacing, and can C's pixel spacing establish the same physical fit?

Show the reference answer and checks

SR1 and SR2 support A's F-format association to B and the reviewed 20 mm spacing. SR3's crop measures pixels without a physical scale, and C's format G differs. Equal-looking spacing or the shared name cannot establish B compatibility for C. Request a calibrated view and an exact format reference instead of converting 20 pixels directly to 20 mm or inferring a real fit from the photo alone.

  • Treating image pixels as physical millimeters without calibration.
  • Matching a shared refill name while ignoring binding format and hole spacing.

Fields to preserve

Binder and refill format
Defines the compatibility target.
Center spacing and calibrated scale
Supports the measurement.
Exact compatibility source and missing basis
Limits the match.

Test another case

Add C's calibrated 20 mm spacing but keep format G. Require numerical agreement without declaring its format compatible.

Use original paper props and labels. Exclude client forms, vendor documents and proprietary templates.
