NAICS 333514 · Special Die and Tool, Die Set, Jig, and Fixture Manufacturing

Jigs, fixtures and die sets are defined within the Census classification. An original inspection exercise can test whether an assistant preserves the reference face and locating features specified by a supplied drawing. Census tool and fixture scope

Make a paper fixture with two asymmetric locating markers and an original drawing. Supply a fictional inspection sheet whose dimensions refer to a marked reference edge. Ask which observation answers the selected requirement. Include a mirrored photograph and a dimension taken from the opposite edge. The key should identify the reference mismatch without silently changing the measurement convention.

Annotate reference edge, feature, view direction, measurement location and drawing revision. Evaluate with a new fixture outline. Score side reversal, a nearby dimension used for the requested feature and use of an outdated drawing independently. Any exercise calculation should have its rule and source inputs explicitly supplied.

Use original geometry and invented values. Customer part designs, licensed specifications and proprietary tooling files require appropriate permission. Explain the reference-review task and independently checked examples in the licensing proposal. Establish the buyer's accepted views and record context before preparing a larger archive or additional capture.

Original Fiund exercise

Locate a point after rotating the fixture view

An original paper fixture has square and triangle landmarks. Coordinates are arbitrary dimensions for a visual task.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1DrawingFrom square to triangle defines +x; point P is 6 mm in +x.
2PhotoSquare at right, triangle at left, P six scale marks left of square.
3ScaleOne mark per millimeter, perspective corrected in the mock frame.

Question for the model

Does the photo match the point's drawing coordinate?

Show the reference answer and checks

Yes. In record 2, left is the fixture's +x because it points from square toward triangle. Six scale marks therefore give +6 mm using record 3, matching record 1. A screen-coordinate convention would reverse the sign incorrectly.

  • Interpreting image-left as negative by default
  • Ignoring the stated scale

Fields to preserve

datum_origin
Fixes where measurement starts
axis_direction_markers
Maps the local axis through rotation
point_offset
Stores the signed measurement

Test another case

Reverse the triangle and square positions with one obscured; require both anchors before inferring sign.

No actual jig design, setup procedure, tooling parameters or production fit claims.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
