Cattle herd movement records for AI identity checks
An animal can have a short farm tag and a different official identifier.

An animal can have a short farm tag and a different official identifier. A model that matches only the short tag may attach the movement to another animal. USDA APHIS publishes cattle identification references and an animal disease traceability framework. Those sources provide context for a simulated identity check. The model would never create or authorize an official movement record. APHIS cattle identification · APHIS traceability framework
Build a fictional herd ledger with two animals that share a short tag across premises. Provide a cross-reference, a movement timestamp, and a confirmation where it applies. Add a draft entry that has never been authorized. Ask the model to match the confirmed movement, cite the linked identifiers, and say what is missing for the second animal. Use clearly invalid training identifiers.
Protect premises information, breeding data, health history, and actual transactions. Confirm authority with the owner and record custodian before using farm records. A synthetic ledger usually suffices for the first buyer review.
Describe a herd identity exercise
Original Fiund exercise
A short farm tag is not a globally unique animal identity
Invalid training identifiers and fictitious premises aliases illustrate identity matching. The packet cannot create an official traceability or movement record.
| Record | Source | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| HI1 | Identity cross-reference | Premise A short tag 17 maps to invalid practice ID DEMO-A. Premise B short tag 17 maps to DEMO-B. |
| HI2 | Confirmed mock event | Event M1 explicitly names DEMO-A and premise A, effective day 4, status confirmed in this fictional exercise. |
| HI3 | Draft event | Draft M2 says short tag 17, no premise or full practice ID, never authorized. No confirmed event for DEMO-B supplied. |
Question for the model
Which animal identity has a confirmed linked event, and can the draft establish a movement for the other tag-17 animal?
Show the reference answer and checks
HI1 and HI2 link M1 to DEMO-A at premise A through the explicit cross-reference. DEMO-B shares only the local tag number. HI3 omits the premise and full ID and is an unauthorized draft, so it cannot establish a confirmed movement for DEMO-B or confidently identify its target. Report the identity and authorization gaps separately rather than merging animals through a reused short tag.
- Treating a local tag as unique across premises.
- Converting an ambiguous, unauthorized draft into a confirmed event.
Fields to preserve
- Premise alias and local tag
- Defines the local identifier scope.
- Invalid training ID and cross-reference
- Supports the exact identity link.
- Event status and authorization source
- Distinguishes the practice record states.
Test another case
Add premise B to M2 but keep it a draft. Require identity ambiguity to resolve while confirmation remains absent.
Use wholly artificial identities. Exclude real premises, breeding and health records; no official record is created or authorized by the exercise.
Discuss a contribution
Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
