Speech Evaluation Workbench
Compare an ASR transcript with a verified reference. Understand substitutions, deletions and insertions, then export a reproducible evaluation report.
Free · No signup · Files and text are processed in this browser. Tool inputs are not uploaded or added to enquiry links. Standard site analytics measure page visits and tool actions only. Export your work before leaving; inputs are not saved.
NFC Unicode normalization and collapsed whitespace are always applied. WER uses whitespace-separated words; CER uses Unicode code points. For languages without spaces between words, CER is often more useful. Maximum two million alignment cells per metric, per pair.
How to use this tool
- Paste a reference and hypothesis, or provide JSONL transcript pairs.
- Choose normalization rules and evaluate.
- Inspect word-level differences and export the scores and settings.
Questions and limitations
Can WER exceed 100%?
Yes. Insertions can make the total error count exceed the number of reference words. This tool leaves those results visible.
How are empty references handled?
The tool reports insertions but leaves the individual percentage undefined when the reference is empty. Corpus scoring sums all errors and reference counts; the corpus rate is undefined only when its total reference count is zero.
Does this transcribe recordings?
No. Supply a verified reference transcript and a model transcript. The tool evaluates text locally and does not upload audio or text to an ASR service.
