NAICS 336320 · Motor Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Equipment Manufacturing

Vehicle electrical and electronic equipment has a distinct Census manufacturing scope. An original static exercise can test whether a visible connector reference is associated with the correct cavity in its supplied drawing. Census vehicle-electronics scope

Draw a fictional connector with an asymmetrical key and numbered cavities. Use an unpowered paper prop and a view register. Ask which cavity corresponds to the selected drawing callout. Include a rear-facing view with reversed apparent numbering and an unrelated connector with the same cavity count. The key should use the orientation marker and exact connector identity.

Annotate connector, cavity, viewing side, marker, drawing revision and source view. Hold out a new key shape for evaluation. Score count-only matching, front and rear views confused and an occluded marker guessed independently. A supported answer should cite the visible key and the effective drawing region rather than rely on familiar wire colors.

Use original diagrams with no real pin functions, credentials, vehicle software or electrical testing. Customer schematics, licensed interfaces, supplier manuals and outside test records need appropriate permission. Define the visual-association task and required views with the buyer. A checked source key should precede commercial preparation or capture. The sample makes no wiring or vehicle repair recommendation.

A view change reverses the cavity order

An original connector-shaped paper prop uses abstract numbered circles with no circuits or signals.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Toy mapFace view key up: cavities 1, 2, 3 left to right.
2PhotoBack view key up; sticker visible at image-left.
3Viewing noteBack view reflects horizontal order in this prop.

Question for the model

Which cavity location corresponds to the sticker?

Show the reference answer and checks

Image-left in the back view corresponds to cavity 3 in the face view because record 3 reverses horizontal order. Use the key-up reference in records 1 and 2. The sticker identifies a paper location only; it provides no wiring or functional information.

  • Using face-view numbering on a back view
  • Inferring electrical roles from the toy cavity labels

Fields to preserve

view_face

key_marker
Keeps the prop upright
cavity_index
Stores the stable face-view location

Test another case

Use a back-view photo that is also digitally mirrored; account for both transformations.

Paper geometry only; no automotive wiring, pinouts, electrical function, repairs or installation advice.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
