The American Coatings Association publishes industry resources for coatings. A producer can define an original data task that keeps a drawdown sample connected to its formula revision, substrate and comparison conditions. American Coatings Association

Create self-authored color panels, a fictional sample register and two formula references. Show a retained panel beside a fresh panel, with their dates and substrates explicitly recorded. Ask the assistant which comparisons are supported and which source applies to a selected batch. Include an image lacking the substrate reference and a report for an older formula carrying the same product name.

Annotate formula revision, batch, sample age, substrate, view and source scope. Hold out a new color family for evaluation. Score wrong-revision matches, unsupported comparisons and a visible difference assigned an unrecorded cause independently. The key should identify what the image shows without deriving durability or composition from appearance.

Use original artwork, paper props and invented values. Customer color standards, licensed reference materials, formulations and outside laboratory reports need source-specific permission. A licensing brief should describe the comparison task and independent key. Establish the buyer's required conditions and accepted material before preparing a larger commercial archive or commissioning additional capture.

Original Fiund exercise

Keep the substrate fixed when comparing cards

The contributor draws inert color panels. Mock formula references are labels only.

Fictional records supplied to the evaluator
RecordSourceWhat it records
1Reference registerTarget comparison is formula F2 on substrate S1.
2Card AF2 on S2; no substrate correction record.
3Card BF2 on S1; same capture setup as target.

Question for the model

Which card answers the requested comparison?

Show the reference answer and checks

Use B as the matched-condition comparison because record 3 agrees with both fields in record 1. A shares F2 but uses another substrate under record 2. Its appearance may be recorded for S2, but it cannot fill the S1 comparison slot.

  • Treating formula ID as the only comparison key
  • Attributing substrate-driven appearance solely to formula

Fields to preserve

substrate_id
Determines matching surface context
formula_reference
Identifies version without exposing composition
capture_setup
Keeps viewing conditions explicit

Test another case

Give both cards on S1 but with different capture lighting; require a matching target image before quantitative comparison.

Use original color drawings only; no formula composition, application instructions or client tolerances.

Discuss a contribution

Describe the sources you control, the task they could support and what has already been checked. Use the existing-data assessment for an archive or the collection brief for a new recording project. The contributor agreement defines Fiund’s licensing authority and compensation. A guide or fictional exercise does not establish an accepted collection or a sale.
